As you know, we have been writing Hadoop Application Architectures book with O’Reilly. Writing a book is no easy task. With new and challenging demands in technology sector, particularly the big data space, we have decided to make some changes to our book.
We are on to something when it comes to this book. We are just as excited to bring this game changer in your hands as you are. Stay tuned for more updates by following us on Twitter, Facebook or on our website.

- The authors have unanimously decided that the book needs more authors - six more authors, to be exact (in addition to the existing 4). The existing authors are getting trained in CPR so they can be performed on a per need basis when folks at O’Reilly find out.
- Since it’s the first book of its kind, the traditional Animal series cover would be replaced by a light weight, anti-reflective touch screen that customizes the animal based on the reader’s facial profile. The book’s cover is equipped with sensors for detecting age by measuring finger ruggedness and has a front screen camera for deciphering other facial features. These features will then be sent to the cloud with the latest hadoop technology (running on YARN, of course) to pick the best cover for the reader. The cover screen would be need to be re-charged every 3 hours and battery replaced every 6 months.
- Due to increase in number of authors, we have increased the page limit to 1000 and are looking for additional six authors. Here are the qualifications for the additional authors:
- More than 10 years of experience working on Hadoop (sorry, Doug, you don’t qualify)
- Experience running hadoop on iPhone and iPad. Hadoop on Android experience would be considered as a plus.
- The royalties for these additional 6 authors would have a 4 year vesting schedule. These new authors wouldn’t be a part of the “book club” which is composed of the original 4 authors and Tim O’Reilly, who rarely shows up.
- Only the original 4 authors will be allowed to sign the book at conferences. The 6 new authors would get to sign only one letter of their name. The board recommends that the first new author (i.e. the 5th author) sign the first letter of his/her name, second new author signs the second letter of their name and so on. That way we would have a combined 6-letter signature representing the 6 new authors. We call this the Shuffle & Sign algorithm[1].
- Due to increased number of authors, we will include chapters on architectures and features that don’t currently exist today, with authors contributing to such features. At the top of that list is running Hadoop cluster on your smartphone, which of course, runs the cloud and solves CAP.
- Today, we are also announcing Open Book Initiative, where folks can send us anonymous chapters without requiring any attribution. It is imperative that we enable folks to send chapters on architectures anonymously so if there are deficiencies or big gaps in their architectures, no one can track them down or fire them.
- We are also looking for a hairdresser and fashion designer. One of the authors is already giving a Chuck Norris vibe. We will collaborate with the aforementioned hairdresser and fashion dresser to come up with the right vibe for other authors.
